Don has raised and
competed with sighthounds for over 40 years but his favorite sighthound is a greyhound.
Don
competes regularly in WRA, NAWRA,
NOTRA and LGRA racing as well as ASFA lure coursing. He has raised and trained some top dogs
in all these venues of performance. American Sighthound Field Association (ASFA) and AKC Lure trials Judge. He was National Director for LGRA and formed a new ASFA club in 2003. Don has been involved in ASFA since its origin and put on the first Lure Trials in Southern California for both the SCWA and RTG (Rapid Transit Greyhound). He was also the president of the Southern California Whippet Association.
Moved from California
in 2004 and all its restrictions to Oklahoma. Its a busy life. In
2009 Don became State Captain for Oklahoma Patriot Guard, and is now a
Shriner. Since retiring from the Sighthounds and racing he is busier than
ever but keeps a close warm spot in his heart for all the dogs past and present.
ASFA trials are fun and the sighthounds really excel at this game. From time to time we set up a small practice field on our acres to qualify dogs for the ASFA trials - All our dogs enjoy a break from racing but we try not to run to many coursing trials so the dogs don't begin to cheat so much - Sally and
afghan Sturgis with another Best In Field, and Sally's afghan Yousha winning
the Grand Fanale at our last event, The International Invational 2009
Most the time spent on nice days is devoted to the schooling the dogs
and
teaching them the ropes of racing and running. With over 40
years in greyhounds and whippet racing dogs are still his best
friend.
Besides working to breed a good moderate size whippet that can still run
fast, Don works on encouraging whippet owners to bring their dogs out to
race, no matter what their breeding - they all love to run.
